Ka Ora Ka Ako Funding
Our Kura has been fortunate enough to receive funding from The Ministry of Education to provide healthy school lunches to all our tamariki. This was originally for 2021 only but it has been extended to the end of 2023.
We are lucky enough to have a well equipped kauta here at Kura and we were able to provide employment opportunities to Kura whānau to plan, prepare, cook, serve and clean for this initiative.

Feedback from Kaiako
"This term I have seen a noticeable change in the students. My students are more focused in class and their behavior has improved. They aren't eating as much sugar which keeps them on task for longer periods. Their intake of good food daily definitely helps them in the classroom, having continued fruit throughout the day is a huge help!"
"For my class sandwiches are popular and often rice meals have a little left over."
"Portion sizes are great, the kids aren't hungry after their lunch and I find the lunch boxes useful to keep kai separated and hot."
"Something to improve on maybe having a wharekai, which reduces the areas of mess having kai in one place. Some eat in their classrooms where others eat in the Horo. Having tables may also be helpful”.
"I noticed a difference immediately, I teach years 9-13 and they all have better concentration in class, They are happier students, we have happy Kaiako, it has made a huge difference to our everyday teaching and learning interactions."
"Our chef & his team have altered the lunch process to benefit our wharekura wātaka/schedule. We have Whakapakari/ Fitness/ PE directly after lunch 4 days per week, so our kauta have kindly changed their process so that wharekura receive their lunch at 10.30am interval and their fruit at lunch time so that there is some resting time between the larger meal and fitness. We have very much appreciated this change."
"In my 7 years of teaching, the introduction of free, delicious homemade meals for students everyday has had more of an impact on my classroom practice, the general wellbeing, happiness, concentration and whanaungatanga than anything I have done to date Ka Ora Ka Ako is a game changer for our tamariki."
