Providing a Kura-ā-Iwi whose language of instruction and play is te reo Māori, whose operations are grounded in tikanga Māori, and who, together with the whānau, hapū and iwi of our tamariki will strive to ensure that we produce young people;

  • who have an excellent competency in Te Reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori, with a particular emphasis on Awa, Raukawa and Toa Rangatira tanga,

  • who are high achievers and able to make choices about their future and able to make choices about their future

  • who are able to contribute to their whānau, hapū and iwi

Te Kura-ā-Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano

Te Kura-ā-Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano is a designated character school located in Sunny Otaki on the Kāpiti Coast.

Te Kura-ā-Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano focuses as a kura that is dedicated to delivering all cirriculum areas in te reo Māori (with the exception of English as a class subject) and in accordance with the tikanga (customs) and mātauranga (knowledge) of the resident iwi, Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Toa Rangatira.

As a Kura-ā-Iwi, it seeks to provide education for all tamariki of the resident Iwi and others who wish to avail themselves of this option.


The context of our kura and the community

Te Kura-ā-Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano is a tikanga Māori kura that is guided by Ngā Matāpono tekau (10 guiding principles). We are a kura that responds to the needs of the Iwi in what we teach and the way we behave. We are based within close proximity to Te Wānanga o Raukawa as part of the determination of the founding Iwi to establish a seamless educational pathway, Kohanga to Wānanga.
